Although utilizing an identical drive system as the Scout, the Science Vessel is a totally different ship altogether. The Science Vessel serves strictly as an exploratory vessel with its hardware consisting mostly of advanced sensors, probes, and other scanning devices. On some occasions, the Science Vessels have been used by the Imperial Military to conduct tests on experimental hardware such as various new warp drives and cloaking devices, but its use has primarily been devoted to civilian scientists.
