THE DOMINION
SPECIES: CHANGELING

The Dominion is a totalitarian government headed by the Founders, the Dominion was founded upon xenophobic fear and has lasted for 1000 years.  The Founders who are the power behind the Gamma Quadrant empire once belonged to an ancient race of peaceful explorers.  Known as "Changelings" for their specialized skill in shapeshifting, the travelers found nothing but fear and hatred in their journeys.  Those who were not shapeshifters feared them and soon hunted them until the Changelings sickened of the senseless hatred by the "solids" and retreated to a remote planet within the Omarion Nebula.  There, free of hostile enemies, the Changelings could meld together to form the Great Link, where they can exist as individual minds in a collective environment.

From here, the Changelings began what became to be known as the Dominion.  The slaughter of their species convinced them that only through absolute control over every part of the Universe will they live in peace.  Upon this basis, the Changelings set up a form of absolutist government with themselves as supreme executives, adpoting the title of "the Founders".  In time their government's reach extended across the entire Gamma Quadrant.  Daily administrations are relegated to the Vorta, a race they genetically altered to serve their needs, and the warring business was given to the blindly obedient Jem'Hadar.  Their explorer roots did not vanish, however.  To compensate for being land-bound, the Changelings sent out hundreds of infants to serve as their eyes and ears. In years to come, it was expected these Changelings would return to the Great Link and input new knowledge into their society.
The Dominion demands obedience and complience from its members and enemies.  The Dominion exacts vigilence.  If the founders wishes are not met the Jem Hadar are sent in to exact punishment.  The Founders have within their possesion the ability to inflict punishment with the use of biogenic weapons.

The Vorta homeworld is called Kuril prime, it is presumed to be in the heart of the Dominion.  The Vorta are telekinetic humanoid race, which are genetically engineered or enhanced by the Founders, and they are also the administrative arm of the Gamma Quadrant business power called the Dominion. They are basically the link between the Founders, or the Changelings, and the rest of the Dominion.  In addition, the Vorta are also often in charge whenever the Dominion elite soldiers, the Jem'Hadar, are out on a ruthless mission. In fact, there are usually a Vorta stationed on a Jem'Hadar warship along with 42 Jem'Hadar soldiers, and several are believed to be stationed on the larger Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser.  When an important Vorta dies, the Founders simply clone another one, which continues the work of it's predecessor. This is quite in ingenious way of becoming almost immortal.  Also they are immune to most poisons, which comes quite in handy when out on a diplomatic mission.  The Vorta also have a kill switch, where they commit suicide when they are captured or disobey an order. Their telekinetic abilities, enables them to send out a blue glowing sphere of energy, capable of sending someone hurling towards the ground.

The Jem'Hadar are a genetically engineered species, created by the Founders in order to protect them.  The Jem'Hadar homeworld is Jh'Niv, located in the Tel Cynar Sector.  It is encoded into their genes, that the Founders are their "Gods", and that they have to abide by their laws.  They are the main, and most feared, soldiers in the Dominion business empire. They are extremely attentive and highly intelligent, and takes pleasure in fighting the enemies ofthe Dominion. In fact they look forward to anybattle, and this makes them the most feared soldiers of the Dominion. Also, if they ever fail in a mission, they take their own lives in shame.  The Jem'Hadar have reptilian backgrounds and have the quality of cammoflage thanks to their descendents.  They are capable of hiding themselves against visual detection.  The Jem'Hadar prefer to use hand to hand weapons in combat.  The Jem'Hadar never speak their language to outsiders, this is a precautionary meassure to safeguard their self distruct ommands.
In order to keep their soldiers in submission the Founders have programmed the Jem'Hadar to lack a certain enzyme, which they are addicted to from their birth. They must have this enzyme, called Ketracel White, or they will get ill, and eventually die.  Also, to keep the Jem'Hadar from rebelling, there are no women of the species, so natural procreation is impossible.  The Jem'Hadar are often commanded by a Vorta , and they find themselves dominated by them. 

The Karemma are a humanoid civilization from the planet Karemma. Their homeworld lies in  the Karemma system which is a part of the Dominion.  They are thought to be responsible for  the administration of trade and economy in the Gamma Quadrant.  They also have manufacturing industries with most of the products going to the other members of the Dominion, they construct the torpedoes used by the Jem'Hadar.  Their closeness to the  wormhole also made them the main Dominion trading partner with the Alpha Quadrant, mostly  with the Ferengi and the Federation. Unlike the Ferengi they are honorable businessmen with  a high standard of goods.  Karemma are tall and slender looking humanoids, and are from 2 meters in height up to 2.5.  They have black hair that is combed back, ending in small plait.  They have a head ridge, like  Klingons, but smoother and no edges. The head ridge goes down, and over the nose. The ridge  can be slightly seen to the chin of a Karemma. As a result of this ridge, their nose looks huge.  Karemma have normal eyes that are gray, black or brown. The nose is quite large in the lower end,  Its very broad and one line in the skin on each side of their nose is pointing downwards to the outer  sides of their face.   The Karemma's currency is called Dirack. The Karemma have a Ministry of Commerce and a  Ministry of Trade.  They are very honorable traders, not trying to cheat their business partners like the Ferengi do.  The only contact the Karemma had with the rest of the Dominion was through  the Vorta.
